At the invitation of the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, a delegation from the International Humanitarian University took part in the Ukrainian-Tajik cultural diplomacy event titled “National Identity and the Sense of Patriotism,” which was attended by representatives of leading academic institutions and the Tajik diaspora.
During the event, a presentation was held for the book Selected Works by the classic Tajik writer Sadriddin Ayni, which was recently published in Ukrainian in Kharkiv. Another book presented at the event was The Tajiks and the Border Demarcation of 1924, authored by Candidate of Historical Sciences and Ambassador of Tajikistan to Ukraine, Davlatali Nazrizoda Haidar. The book describes historical events during which the Tajik people, in those difficult years, fought for the establishment of Tajikistan as a separate republic in Central Asia.
In his opening remarks, His Excellency Davlatali Nazrizoda Haidar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, emphasized the importance of strengthening national identity, patriotism, and pride in one’s language and culture.
The Ambassador also noted that in June 2025, the 700th anniversary of the birth of the great Tajik and Persian classical poet Hafez Shirazi will be celebrated at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Tajikistan is also preparing cultural festivities dedicated to the 2550th anniversary of the Cyrus the Great Declaration of Human Rights.
Following His Excellency’s speech, the floor was given to Andrii Horchakov, Deputy Head of International Relations of the Kyiv Society "Znannia" of Ukraine, a Board Member of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, and an honorary professor at the National Academy of Managerial Staff of Culture and Arts, as well as to Vasyl Lefterov, First Vice-Rector of the International Humanitarian University, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, and Professor. They both praised the initiative as a positive development in the cultural relations between Tajikistan and Ukraine.
The discussion of the publications included contributions from renowned Ukrainian Orientalist Oleksandr Shokalo; Professor of the Institute of Journalism of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University Mykola Vaskiv; Senior Researcher at the Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko, Olha Teterina; Head of the Department of Slavic Philology at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Olena Dziuba; Director of the “Museum of One Street,” Dmytro Shlionskyi; and Oleg Orlov, a representative of the Denys Paramonov Foundation. The participants shared their professional insights into cultural and literary cooperation as a way to deepen friendly relations between the two countries.
All attendees received copies of Sadriddin Ayni’s Selected Works in Ukrainian, while the translators and publishers of both books were awarded honorary distinctions. The guest lounge of the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan, where the event was held, was decorated with works of traditional Tajik art, an exhibition of books on the history of the Tajik people, and promotional tourist materials. Guests were treated to exquisite national dishes.
