Professor Svitlana Andreychenko took part in the Staff Training Week “Responsible Internationalization and Institutional Support for At-Risk Scholars in Turbulent Times”, which took place on March 10-14, 2025 at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. The event was organized by the Responsible Internationalization and Global Engagement Task Force (RIGE Task Force) of the Utrecht Network.
The program of the event included panel discussions, group sessions and experience exchange on the following issues:
- Responsible internationalization in the context of current geopolitical challenges.
- Protection of academic freedom as a fundamental principle of higher education and international scientific cooperation.
-Institutional support for scientists in danger.
- Adherence to academic values, freedom and integrity in international partnerships.
During the event, Prof. Andriychenko (project network coordinator from the International Humanitarian University) and Dr. Lisa Heschl (Project Coordinator, Deputy Head of the European Training and Research Center for Human Rights and Democracy, University of Graz, Austria) presented the project “Promoting Academic Freedom in Ukraine” (FreeAc) (2023-1-AT01-KA220-HED-000164930), which aims to support academic freedom in Ukraine, integrate displaced scholars into the European academic space, and strengthen the participation of Ukrainian universities in international cooperation. Participation in the event helped to disseminate information about the project, familiarize with its main goals, and establish new contacts. It also created opportunities to discuss future cooperation, including the involvement of experts in project activities. An important result of the event was the involvement of scientists to give guest lectures and conduct workshops for Ukrainian partner universities.
The International Humanitarian University is a partner of the three-year (2023-2026) FreeAc project of the Erasmus+ KA220-HED program. The project aims to mitigate the consequences of the loss of talent and brain drain from Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression by strengthening inter-institutional cooperation with higher education institutions in the EU and promoting the freedom of Ukrainian academia to research, study, teach and disseminate their research results. As part of the project, a number of online workshops are offered for students and teachers of Moscow State University. In June 2025, a summer school on academic freedom will be held in Poland with the participation of MSU students.
